Equipment selection for sites where dust, humidity, vibration and a hostile ambient temperature are normal operating conditions rather than exceptions.
A mine or a processing plant is one of the harder electrical environments. Dust loads the compartments continuously, humidity swings through the day, motors generate vibration that reaches the busbar supports, and unheated or poorly ventilated buildings push the ambient temperature well above what a standard catalogue rating assumes.
These conditions are not exotic for this type of plant — they are the design case. The question for a supplier is whether the equipment was specified for it or whether the specification was copied from an indoor project. Protection class, busbar support, cable entry and transformer cooling are the four items that decide whether the installation survives its second year of service.
Because the consequences of failure are expensive in this sector, the documentation package matters as much as the hardware. We supply the approved general arrangement drawing and routine factory test reports with every unit.
| Equipment | Role in this application |
|---|---|
| KYN28A-12 MV switchgear | Withdrawable metal-clad for 12kV distribution and motor feed, with reinforced busbar supports where vibration is significant |
| SCB18 dry-type transformer | Cast resin, class F insulation, level-1 efficiency — suited where oil is restricted or where fire load is a concern |
| S13 / S20 / S22 oil-immersed transformer | On-site or outdoor installation where space and ambient temperature favour an oil-immersed unit |
| YB12 package substation | Prefabricated outdoor kiosk for pit-side or remote distribution points without building a switchroom |
Equipment combinations shown are typical configurations for this type of installation. The delivered configuration is confirmed in the technical agreement against your single-line diagram and site conditions.
The enclosure class has to match the actual dust and water exposure at the installation point, not the general site description. Door seals, cable gland plates and the roof design all contribute.
Withdrawal and racking force, and the natural frequency of the assembly, matter where switchgear sits near crushing or rolling equipment. Busbar supports and the mounting arrangement are confirmed with the equipment layout.
Altitude and ambient derating are applied together with the insulation system. We confirm the site conditions in writing before the rating is fixed.
Starting current, starting duration and the number of starts per hour determine the circuit breaker and the contactor class. This is the single most common cause of an incorrectly rated incoming feeder.
In a plant with mixed motor and transformer loads, the selectivity study should be done against the final load list, not estimated from installed capacity.
Yes. The enclosure protection class, the sealing arrangement and the cable entry method are all specified for the site. Send the exposure conditions with your enquiry.
It depends on the installation space, the fire risk policy and the space available for maintenance. Dry-type needs no oil containment, which usually decides it where fire load is restricted. We compare both against your site conditions in the quotation.
We supply the equipment data needed for the study and cooperate with your design institute during selection. The final study and the grid approval remain with the project's own engineer.
The approved general arrangement drawing, routine factory test reports, the operation and maintenance manual, and the packing list.
Send the single-line diagram or the equipment schedule, the destination country and the quantity. We reply with a configuration proposal and a price, normally within 24 hours.
