Medium-voltage collection, step-up and grid-connection equipment for utility-scale and commercial solar plants — from the inverter station to the point of common coupling.
A solar plant has three electrically distinct stages, and each one has different requirements. The inverter station operates at low voltage with a converter that generates harmonics and a fluctuating reactive output. The collection system raises the power to medium voltage. The grid-connection point has to satisfy the utility's protection, anti-islanding and power-quality requirements, which are set by the operator rather than by the plant designer.
The common failure mode is that the equipment is specified in isolation. A grid-connection cabinet selected without checking the utility's anti-islanding and re-closing requirements, or a collection switchgear without checking the inverter's fault contribution, produces a system that has to be modified after installation — and modification at site is expensive.
We supply the equipment package against your single-line diagram and the utility's written requirements, so the delivered configuration matches what will be accepted.
| Equipment | Role in this application |
|---|---|
| PV grid-connection cabinet | 0.4kV / 0.69kV, inverter-side protection, anti-islanding and auto-reclosing, grid-side metering and communication |
| Solar step-up substation | 35kV class step-up unit combining the inverter-station transformer with MV switchgear in one prefabricated outdoor enclosure |
| MV collection switchgear | HXGN-12 ring main unit or KYN28A-12 metal-clad, depending on whether the collector line is ringed or radial |
| Reactive power compensation | SVG for fast fluctuating inverter output; capacitor bank where the operating point is stable |
Equipment combinations shown are typical configurations for this type of installation. The delivered configuration is confirmed in the technical agreement against your single-line diagram and site conditions.
Inverter output is a current source with a harmonic spectrum that depends on the switching device and the filter stage. Where the harmonic level is high, detuned reactors are fitted at 5.6%, 7% or 14% to prevent resonance between the compensator and the network.
The protection must detect grid loss and disconnect the plant within the time the utility specifies. The trip curve and the re-closing behaviour have to be set to the utility's written requirement, not to a general default.
Many grids in the Middle East and Africa require the plant to operate within a specified power factor band. An SVG allows continuous adjustment; a stepped capacitor bank cannot follow an inverter's fluctuation without hunting.
Outdoor enclosures at PV sites are exposed to sand, dust and high ambient temperature. The enclosure protection class, the filter arrangement and the cable entry method are all selected for the site rather than for a catalogue default.
Metering data, protection events and plant status are usually required to reach the owner's SCADA. The communication protocol and the point list are confirmed before production.
Both. We can supply the complete package from inverter station to the grid-connection point, or a single section — a grid-connection cabinet on its own is a common order.
Yes. Send the utility's written requirement or the protection drawing and we build the configuration against it, including the trip curve, the re-closing logic and the communication protocol.
The inverter rating and the number of inverter stations, the collector voltage, the grid connection voltage, and whether the plant needs two transformers with a coupling arrangement or a single unit.
Standard catalog configurations ship on the standard lead time. Engineered packages are quoted at the customized lead time, counted from deposit plus confirmed technical agreement plus approved general arrangement drawing.
Send the single-line diagram or the equipment schedule, the destination country and the quantity. We reply with a configuration proposal and a price, normally within 24 hours.
